The breed was actually created by a breeding manager for the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia named Wally Conron in 1989!

Traditionally, Labradors were the gold standard for guide work, but when a vision-impaired woman in Hawaii needed a dog that wouldn't trigger her husband's allergies, Wally had the clever idea to cross a Labrador Retriever with a Standard Poodle. While they might be more "shaggy" than "sleek," these pups have a majestic heart for service and a personality that's as warm as the coffee inside this cozy! They’ve quickly become a modern family tradition, blending the best of two wonderful worlds.

The breed was actually created by a clergyman named Reverend John "Jack" Russell in the early 19th century! Traditionally, the Parson wanted a brave, athletic terrier that could keep pace with his hounds during a fox hunt but was small enough to bolt a fox from its underground den without harming it. These "Jack of all trades" dogs are famous for their intelligence and their incredible vertical leap. They truly are the ultimate example of a big, bold spirit packed into a compact, sturdy frame!
