This pulpit, this Bible, this note….

All mark the essence of the pastoral transition at Conroe Church.

The pulpit is the same homemade given to me by my brother when we launched 35 years ago.

The Bible is the one given me by my father 50 years ago…

The note…

The note is one I leave inside the book for Pastor Trent as I gift him the Bible and the leadership of Conroe Church…

Following are those words…..

______________________________________________

Trent,

50 years ago, this Bible was given to me by my father. It rests upon the handmade pulpit from which we launched Conroe Church.

For 30 years this was my primary Bible and is my greatest single possession.

With this Bible I constructed our marriage and family.

From this Bible I launched into ministry and built a church.

I carried this Bible until the pages were falling out, the leather was torn, and the book block collapsed; then I treasured it.

It bore the marks of battle.

I treasured every tear stain, every sweat mark and tear in its cover, then it was restored for this day.

This is the Bible that I have gone to battle with for 50 years of ministry. As you have seen, when I am amid a spiritual battle, it is this Bible that I carry to the pulpit.

Today I entrust to your care not just a restored book, not an heirloom to be treasured but a legacy built upon righteousness, truth, honor, and integrity.

Take this Bible and build every aspect and decision of your life and ministry upon the treasure found within.

Just as my father left a single verse for me to lean upon, so do I for you.

“That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour.”
(1 Thes 4:4)

Trent, when you live with integrity above sin, you will own every room you walk into regardless if on the platform or the back pew.

“Remember my son; Heaven and earth shall pass away, but His words shall never pass away… And a life built upon the Rock will never fail.” (Rev. R.W. Smith, PawPaw)

Therefore, I charge you to contend for the faith that was in you grandfathers, Ron, Raymond & Carl

Today, with gratitude and great confidence, I gently place into your hands my treasured Bible and the rich legacy of the wonderful Conroe Church.

Please know that I love you as a son and respect you as a Pastor and a Man of God.

Dad

I recently realized a BIG dream come to pass with the completion of a Doctor of Ministry in Ethics.

09/23/2024

Greetings to all! Thank you to each of you who have checked on me the last few days.

Working in my yard last Wednesday I had a cardiac event and asked Tracie to take me to the hospital. This was the third such event over the last couple of months, once while in Brazil and Spain. After a full workup and heart cath it has been determined that I am still alive! They will be treating me medically and have suggested I make some lifestyle changes.

Thankfully I have been cleared for travel so my two international trips before Thanksgiving are still a go. I plan to attend the UPCI General Conference in Long Beach next week. It appears however the lifestyle changes that are taking place in my life are speeding up and going further than ever! FYI, when I pass from this life I hope to have my boots on reaching for yet another mountain. I have no plans for retirement. Pray for Tracie.

Thanks again.....
