“Music is my life,” said a wise bumper sticker. Once upon a time I’d have that on my Subaru as well. Not anymore.

There’s something funny about when a talent or career becomes “your life.”
You end up giving your life to that thing (go figure). What happens though, is you end up dedicating your life to a skill set and a passion, which are ultimately directed by you and you alone.

If your “why” is what you do, then your “why” is just you.

I discovered that to escape severe depression, aimlessness, and anxiety, I had to find a new “why.” My new “why” had to be bigger than myself. It had to be more loving and forgiving of my mistakes and shortcomings than myself. It had to be far more powerful and full of hope than myself.

In this process I found Jesus. Full of hope and forgiveness, his words say that if I trust him, I can be more free in him and have a bigger “why” than ever. Now I do music, but not for music’s sake alone.
And it’s actually better than ever. I’m more creative than ever and have more joy than ever while doing it.

You may not know or even like Jesus at all, but I encourage you, stop looking for your “why” in what you do. However talented you may be, you’ll come up short at some point. Your “why” has to be bigger than you. It has to be bigger than anything else. Let me know if you wanna talk that out. DM’s are open and I’m here for ya. 🤍
