| Diving
The lake has a dive platform, a sunken bus, two helicopters, and lots of fish! Might be chilly; 3-5 mil suit recommended. Be sure to arrive early (approx 11 a.m.) if you intend to dive. Expect 80 degrees on the surface at this time of year and colder past the various thermoclines as the lake can get past 60 feet for true deep dives. Bring proper hoods, gloves and lights if you go this deep as it is a night dive at this depth – but the water gets clearer!
Let the game begin!
After lunch, the "playing field" will be laid out at about 20 feet with two decks of special plastic-coated cards (one red, one blue) on lines with clips attaching the cards. Each buddy team will be allowed to collect a maximum of five cards at one time. You will have 45 minutes to "improve" your hand as you take and replace cards to create the winning standard poker hands (flushes, straights, four-of-a-kind, full houses, etc.). Great prizes will be given out to the top poker hands presented at the end of the time period. You do not have to have a buddy to come. We will buddy you up if you do not have one.
Getting there
Glen Rose is about 77 miles from DFW Airport, off Hwy 67 south of the Fort Worth area and slightly southwest of Waxahachie. You could do an easy day-trip from Dallas. If you make a weekend of it, you could visit the nearby Dinosaur Valley State Park or explore the 1,700-acre Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.
From the Dallas area, take I-35 past the Dallas Zoo and take the right-hand split on Hwy. 67 to Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Midlothian, Alvarado and Cleburne. In Glen Rose, take Bo Gibbs Blvd. (CR 301) near the Expo Center/La Quinta intersection and go a half-mile west to see the park entrance where you will veer left at the “Y” intersection onto CR 326. Look for the Scubadillo signs and banners at the pavilion.

Where: Canyon Lake, North Park – somewhere new to the club
When: July 15-16.
Let’s go diving in beautiful Canyon Lake west of San Marcos. Yes, it’s a long drive (let me know if you want to car pool) but it’s a new place for the club. It’s a very scenic area too.
Schedule:
Long drive so it’s recommended to drive down the day before\
Dive #1 Saturday 10am (approximately)
Lunch – grill at the park
Dive #2: 2 pm (approximately)
Dinner at restaurant – TBD
Alternatives for Sunday:
Dive Clear Lake if you have the certification for it (I’ll make a reservation)
Dive North Park again – checkout is 2pm from the Park
Dive Overlook park – free and different from North Park, but the shore entry is more difficult – you have to haul your gear down from parking to shore – a cart is definitely recommended.
We have two sites for Friday night and Saturday night to be able to dive the park. Note that they allow 3 cars per site so ride sharing from hotel to lake is recommended.
Accommodation alternatives:
Primitive camping at North Park. Paid by the club and no charge if you want to stay there.
Hotels in San Marcos (30 minute drive from Canyon Lake
Quality Inn University near Downtown (this is where I’ll be staying)
Motel 6 north of San Marcos – many have stayed there in the past for Rebel’s San Marcos cleanup.
Baymont Inn & Suites by Wyndham San Marcos Outlet Malls
Comfort Inn & Suites
Airbnb – there are multiple options.
There are a couple of hotels by the lake – check Expedia for details.
Diving:
I need to provide a list of divers to the park prior to the arriving so RSVP is encouraged (Otherwise you may not enter the park).
Not sure of conditions – will know closer to the dates.
There’s multiple sunken objects – here’s a map: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=9130252097016978&set=gm.1369509003845131&idorvanity=306658536796855
RSVP to Mike Lindstrom ([email protected] / 469-939-6773).
