On Training....

Lately I started coming to unsettling realization... It was through observation of many students, seminar participants, through examining teaching methodology.
There is a significant gap and difference in what people are training to do and what they actually do when proverbial m***e hits the proverbial oscillator...
Some of it can be written off to emotional load that comes with real life violence vs the simulated one in training environment. That is reality and it's well understood by many.
Yet. There is something else. More important. Because it is an oversight, sometimes mistake, but truly- it's a major fault on part of instructors/teachers... And it's often due to willfully "forgetting" where we came from...
That fault- we are teaching people what they should be in the future. Down the road. Sometimes- years from now. From today- The day they may NEED legit skills to defend their life. Or that of a loved one.
And while giving our students a nice insight into the future abilities and maybe even capabilities said student MAY develop- given time, effort, guidance- we send them out that door into a dangerous and unpredictable world with very little- if any- improvement of their CURRENT abilities...
