I saw this posted on another social media site by someone in my hometown... it was so good, I had to repost it, reminding everyone that Christmas light installation is not a "regulated industry" like you get with other trades (e.g. you don't have to be a master electrician to hang Christmas lights)... Cheaper is not always "better"...
"Many of the inexpensive Christmas light installers do not have proper insurance, knowledge, training, licensing, etc. Very few of these people have accurate electrical knowledge for incandescent bulbs and wiring, moisture in LEDs/SMDs, nor gfci/breaker trips. Keep in mind that a fall on a property or an OSHA check is very costly for individuals and companies without proper insurance and training. Many affordable installers don’t come back for service checks nor product removal in January. Lastly, the most knowledgeable and dependable companies purchase commercial grade SMDs and installation products from a reputable vendor. These products last for 5-6 years. Lowe’s and Home Depot are not commercial grade no matter the labeling. Companies that stay in business and have the proper knowledge, insurance, and credentials are not the cheapest. Typically, companies have a minimum to cover their costs. It covers products costs, insurance, licensing, training, etc. A company with a minimum starting price is usually one that’s insured, knowledgeable, and dependable. They have experience and that’s why they stay in business. You truly GET what you pay for in this service industry."
Well said, neighbor, well said. Stay safe out there this holiday season!
