What is Open Classical?
Open Classical produces and promotes events that place classical music into the heart of everyday popular culture, including Classical Open Mics, professional “Experience” Shows at cafes and wine bars, professional chamber music concerts enhanced by theater-style amplification, and innovative theater shows.
Looking at the “big picture”, we seek to fill in the gaps of opportunity that occur naturally in the structure of classical music. Because there aren’t many places to socialize around classical music (like there are around pop music), we create classical open mics, which are social experiences where people can share music on a variety of levels. Because competitions are not the best way to select performers that have something unique to express that could capture an audience, we create ways for artists to be self-starters and build an audience without competition wins. Because classical music can often times seem overly serious, we create comedy shows that make things fun and entertaining for all.
Open Classical is always evolving in our means and constantly seeks out new answers for ways to connect people with an art form that can touch hundreds of millions throughout the world, from young to old, on every continent, and of all economic backgrounds.
