HUMONGOUS Shoutout to our new Apex hero, Dallas ISD District 5 Trustee Maxie Johnson!!!

One of the most challenging issues we bump into is the plight of twice-exceptional students (2E); students diagnosed with Autism who are academically gifted but socially very needy. Research has continued to indicate that these learners need extremely customized opportunities in smaller-scale classes to be successful.

The structure offered by Magnet schools is often uniquely equipped to support these students, but these campuses often have strict occupancy guidelines, deadlines for acceptance, and no blueprint or obvious scaffolding for 2E students.

Trustee Johnson was both swift and influential in his response to Apex’s plea to assist one of our own; deftly opening doors that had been closed and locked to our client and finally affording him a fighting chance to meet his potential.

This simple, kind gesture does much to pave the way for others in similar straits. Whether you understand this kindness to affect your child or your family, I hope you understand it affects us all. Good is a fluid thing, it ripples on to create more and greater good. This is especially true when that goodness comes from an unexpected place. Like an outcry from within a silent crowd, it echos, is amplified by the silence from which it came.
