Rain, rain go away… come back another day!
We are having a rough time staying dry. How are the bugs staying dry? Do you ever wonder where they go? Like us, they are trying to find a place to stay nice and dry.
The best place to do this is your home.
Check around your doors, to see if you see any daylight. It could be as simple as replacing the weatherstripping or threshold on your door to stop them from coming in.
Weep holes in homes are great entries for them to come in. They may allow your house to breathe but is also an opening for bugs. Homes settle so that the windows are no longer aligned to seal completely. Bugs will find openings that you don’t even know exist.
If your backyard looks like mine, water is standing everywhere. Making our homes dry high ground. No one‘s home is 100% bug-proof.
Earwigs are now coming in. They do not like to be inside our homes, yet during this time of oversaturation, they will. Even millipedes who like the moist ground do not enjoy the “small ponds” our yards have become. Ants will set up homes in your walls from all those weep holes. Ground Black Beetles no longer have ground, they have mud and will come in. And of course, with moisture comes mosquitos. They only need a thimble of water to lay their eggs. Once they find your house, the majority of bugs do not want to move out. It’s dry, temperature-controlled, plus water and food are available.
We have botanical treatments that can be done during these rainy days to evict those pest invaders. Even mosquito treatments in the rain that stops them from ever becoming adults. Rodents this time of year also tend to find any place to escape the bad weather. It can be in your home, your attic, or even the hood of your car. It is very common for packrats to collect materials and make nests right under your hood. They can even cause damage to your car by chewing through the wiring.
If you are having any of these issues or any other concerns, give us a call! We are more than glad to share with you, DIY tips that may help you out also! We’re in this sinking boat together!
