Sci-Fi, Comics, Film, Horror, Genre, "You name it, we talk about it."® Ben and Keith, the Two Gay Gee

06/13/2026

I just got back from seeing “Disclosure Day.”

I must admit to being somewhat disappointed. I had hoped to see a movie that created a greater sense of wonder and discovery, much like Close Encounters did when I first saw it. Carl Sagan’s “Contact” also delivered both, and while there was a feeling of wonder at times, the rest of the movie merely felt like an action movie with characters who were incapable of seeing past their own noses.

While I liked the idea of how humanity might react towards learning about the covered up evidence of extra-terrestrial life, I felt there was too much pandering towards why it should be kept secret, and not enough argument as to why it should be disclosed.

The performances were good, especially from Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor. They beautifully recaptured Richard Dreyfuss’s performance as Roy Neary as he desperately sought to understand what was happening to him. While Colin Firth gave a good performance, his character had little depth, making him less of a character and more of a caricature.

It was an entertaining and diverting film, for the most part, despite not quite delivering the goods as I had hoped.

I give “Disclosure Day” 3 out of 5 Cardinals.
