Balancing Tip of the Day (Cynuric Acid):
Think of cynuric acid as sunscreen for your pool's chlorine. Without cynuric acid, UV rays would burn off the chlorine.
If you have an indoor pool, you do not need cynuric acid. But for the rest of us, cynuric is something we need to add and monitor. The ideal cynuric levels are between 30 and 50ppm.
If cynuric levels are WAY below 30ppm, you will need to add granular cynuric acid. If the levels are just a little low, don't worry because cynuric acid is found in all chlorine tabs.
Unlike some other chemicals in your pool, cynuric acid does not go away. Once added, it will always stay in your pool's water. So if it is too high, you will need to drain your pool. Draining is usually necessary every 5-7 years due to the cynuric acid in chlorine tabs. When cynuric acid is high, your pool's chlorine is less effective.
