I built a classroom on being needed. Then I realized I'd become the problem.
For years, I thought good teaching meant they couldn’t do it without me.
Every hand in the air? Proof I mattered.
Every “Can you check this?” Validation I was good at this.
Until one moment shifted everything 👇🏾
I realized I wasn’t teaching students to lead themselves.
I was teaching them to lean on me.
There’s a difference between being a guide and being a crutch.
One creates capacity.
The other creates dependency.
One of the more difficult professional shifts I've chosen to make?
Stepping back and asking:
Am I helping them trust themselves, or trust me?
That question changed a lot about how I show up on the scene.
Not just in school. In relationships. In leadership. In life.
In subtle ways, we’re trained to be the hero. And most of our students don’t need rescuing—they need room, clarity without control, and our courage to let them try.
