Millions of people are without power in Texas today. However, millions of square footage of office space in downtown and uptown are fully functional and are wasting enormous amounts of electricity with those buildings heated to 70 degrees. There are very few people even working in these buildings largely because of COVID. My office landlord won’t shut the building down “because a handful of people are working in the office”. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. Total and complete lack of judgment and common sense.

Shut every office building down and save that electricity for residents who are cold. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

While all of us are doing our best to manage the effects of COVID, our work to flip the Texas House must continue. We need nine seats to ensure Democrats have a strong role in how our state is governed next year.

Redistricting was already a key issue but our next legislature will also determine if we build on the gains in public education that where made in 2019 or go backwards. The number of uninsured Texans is increasing rapidly and we need to improve our health care systems to ensure all Texans receive quality health care. It is imperative that we gain those nine seats to improve our state.

I encourage all of you who are concerned about the COVID-19 virus to contact your local and federal elected officials and demand we start testing everyone who works in an elder care facility. All the data shows that the elderly - especially those with significant health issues - face serious risks. It’s unacceptable that our government is not doing more to protect these vulnerable populations. Washington state has had over 20 deaths of seniors because 70 caregivers have the virus. In Italy the number is now over 1,000.

The country is devolving into a panic because our government did little over a three month period of tine to prepare for an epidemic every epidemiologist said would effect us. I don’t understand why testing kits aren’t widely available but it’s time for us to demand more accountability from our government.

My advice is to call the following elected officials and demand more be done. Testing is key to stopping the spread of this deadly epidemic.
