Today, we honor Juneteenth and reflect on a piece of our own history.

Our founder, Carrie Steele-Logan, was born into slavery in and experienced emancipation. In 1886, after witnessing children abandoned at Atlanta’s Union Station, she felt called to do something.

What started as one woman’s dream to care for vulnerable children became a reality in 1888 when Carrie Steele-Pitts Home was officially chartered.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we remember the strength, courage, and determination of those who came before us. We are especially grateful for Mrs. Steele-Logan’s vision, which continues to impact the lives of children, youth, and families across Georgia 138 years later.

Her story reminds us that one person can make a lasting difference.
