Meet Smudge!
A smutty buckskin mare that is cute as a button. She’s a great size that will suit a lot of people. She’s broke, fun and ready to go in whatever direction you want to take her. She’s gentle and has been ridden by several kids. She rides great in the arena and is started tracking and roping the dummy. She will track live steers around and will pin her ears and fall right in behind one. She has a big stop and could make a cute breakaway or heel horse pretty quick. She will let you carry a tarp on her. She’s great carrying a flag. You can drag the barrel around on her. She is very unique in the fact that she’s half quarter horse/half Appaloosa and she has what is called the Indian Shuffle. The original Appaloosa breed produced this gait and you will still see it crop up sometimes in an appy or appy cross. It definitely makes her smooth to ride.

If trail riding is your gig then Smudge has ya covered. She’s confident and happy outside. She will cross water. She loves going up and down the hills and valleys. She has been ridden out in desert country and knows how to pick her way through cactus. She has been ridden with groups of horses but she will gladly ride out alone without an issue. You can definitely tell she’s a horse that enjoys riding outside.

She’s no stranger to the ranch scene. She’s covered big country gathering and penning cows. She’s awesome to prowl pastures on and you can even send the kids out on her to scout around. Or spend a quiet day going out to check your fences on her. The kids have went swimming on her in the pond. One kid can ride her and the other one holds onto her tail and she drags them through the water.

If you’re looking for a very special kind of small horse for your family Rio is your guy. He’s safe, sane, kind and absolutely loves every human he meets. I know you probably think 3 years old is too young but he is truly the shining example of an old sold in a young body. He’s safe for the kids and the grandparents that want a short horse. Of course with his age he still has a couple more years to grow. He’s been exposed to dogs, pigs, goats, donkeys, llamas and cows of all sizes. He is best buddies with all of them. He never meets a stranger be it on 2 legs or 4. You can pony the llama, the pony or the cow around on him. He’ll come catch you when you walk out with a halter. He will ride ba****ck with just a halter and lead rope. He lets the kids crawl all over him, under him and even ride him backwards.

He’s been ridden in the arena quite a bit and has gotten the art of loping circles down. He picks up his leads. He’s very soft, flexes both ways and rides light in the face and low headed. He has been ridden mostly 2 handed but also can be ridden 1 handed. He moves off your leg. He stops easily and backs up when asked. He will carry a flag, pack the huge stuffed animals around and take pride in keeping the little ones safe. You can drag a tarp on him, he’ll walk over it and he wants to stop and play with it. He’s full of fun and silly antics.

Rio is already proving himself to be a shining star on the trails. He’s not spooked of anything we’ve found. He cruises up and down the hills like an old pro. He goes through the water like a miniature tugboat. He rides down the road and isn’t scared of cars/trucks going past him. The kids can ride him all over. He’s confident to ride out alone. In a group he doesn’t care where you ride front, middle or back.

Of course Rio is no stranger to the ranch scene. He’s proficient at gathering and penning cows. You can use him to load trucks. You can let your pawpaw take off and check fences on him. Or let your guests ride him. If you have a tiny tot too small to ride alone you can pony them off Rio right beside your horse.

If you want a cool little horse that will suit your whole family and that will be with you a lot of years you’ve found your match. He is great for the farrier. He takes a bath like a gentleman. He stands tied with no pulling back. Stands still for saddling. Stands for the kids to get on him with the mounting steps. He loads and hauls like a champ. The kids can even ride him into the trailer.
