Bottom made BBC Two slapstick loud, ugly, filthy, and strangely precise. Rik Mayall’s Richie and Adrian Edmondson’s Eddie lived in a flat where boredom became violence, friendship became insult, and every domestic object looked ready to become part of the next collision.

Richie and Eddie’s physical chaos came from years of comic partnership and stage-style timing. “Gas” showed their skill clearly: panic, doors, pipes, bodies, shouting, and sudden impacts all worked because the mayhem was rehearsed like a violent dance.
