Diego Castillo Named 2019 Tampa Tarpons Player Of The Year.
Last year’s Tampa Tarpons Player of the Year, the winner was infielder Diego Castillo. Our poll had Castillo getting 53 percent of the vote. Castillo got off to a rocky start to begin the 2019 campaign, but he responded with showing his usual consistency as the season went on.
In 114 games with the Tarpons, Castillo had a slash line of .248/.310/.329 with 4 home runs, 33 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in 16 opportunities. The 13 stolen bases were a career-high and his 103 hits were the second most on the Tarpons roster behind another infielder, Oswaldo Cabrera (117).
Castillo began the season hitting below .230 in each of the first 3 months of the year. However, the 23-year-old hit .268 over the final 64 games of the year and 12 of his 61 hits went for extra-bases (7 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs). (By Rick Keeler)
