The Dahlia I knew is long gone — replaced by senior apartments, clinics, and a whole new purpose.

But that’s the thing about foundations:
Even when the buildings change, the lessons don’t.

A community in its prime.
A kid with a bucket in 1978.
A neighborhood that fought through redlining, contamination, and a redevelopment deal that almost changed everything.

All of that shaped me.
The hustle.
The resilience.
The ability to build something solid — even when the ground under you wasn’t.

This chapter isn’t about what was lost.
It’s about what was planted here…
and how far those roots carried me.**

**Before redlining and divestment stripped this place down, the Dahlia was a true community hub.
A full shopping center.
A gathering spot.
A place where families shopped, kids ran around, and the neighborhood felt alive.
