How We Swing
LAPOMPE is a Denver-based hot-club jazz band formed in 2013. With deep roots in 1920s-30s Parisian jazz, their sound traverses between upbeat American Jazz standards, to gypsy folk-tunes, French ballads, & soulful originals. Their recent album 'Lush' combines their love of classic jazz tunes such as, "Exactly Like You" with folk and blues inspired originals such as "Plant Trees". This evolution is most prevalent in their medley of Django Reinhardt's Artillerie Lourde with an original number, aptly re-named "Heavy Cream".
Just nominated by Denver's esteemed Westword Magazine as one of the best jazz bands in Denver, LAPOMPE has been seen playing at some of the biggest festivals on the front range, including the Jazz Five Points Festival, People's Fair, & Westword Music Showcase. On top of that, LAPOMPE has quickly become one of the premiere swing bands in Denver. With frequent spots at pretty much every swing dance hall on the Front range, LAPOMPE's infectious rhythm is sure to make you tap your toes.
Featuring David Lawrence on vocals and guitar, Andrew Hannum on guitar, Kevin Laxar on upright bass & Erik Fellenstein on Violin
