At WE ARE, we believe that understanding our history helps us build a better future.

Juneteenth commemorates the day enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is both a celebration and a call to remember that progress has never been automatic. It has always required courage, community, & collective action.

May those of us who value truth-telling continue the work of sharing stories, nurturing healthy racial identities, and creating communities where every child & person knows they belong.
