A team from the National Center for Child Health and Development (Tokyo, Japan) has detailed their successful transplantation of hepatocytes derived from human embryonic stem cells into a 6-day old patient with congenital urea cycle disorder. The transplant was performed as a ‘bridge’ treatment for the disorder until the patient was capable of safely receiving a full liver transplant.
