Day 17: A Conversation with a Woman in a Bad Church in Rochester

I talk about my day getting my hair done, spending time with my grandson, and a heavy conversation with a woman stuck in a toxic church in Rochester. She asked how I stay confident and unlearn lies. I shared that I’m still learning, and I told her healing can’t happen inside the thing breaking her. I’m here for women awakening to the truth.

I’m not writing this from the other side of it. I’m a few steps up the road, not on a hill.

I’m a biblical counselor. I did the training, I have the credential, and I still catch myself hunting for what’s wrong with me on a Tuesday.

Forty years doesn’t wash off because you got the paperwork.

Here’s the only thing that got me out. It wasn’t a better church or a better teacher. It was finding out it was already finished. Nothing left to pay. Nothing left to fix to get Him to look at me. The first time that landed I sat in my car and couldn’t move — because if that’s true, then every offering, every seed, every year I spent trying to earn a face that was already turned toward me was for nothing. And He was never the one asking.

That’s what I do now.
I sit with women while that sinks in.
It usually takes a while.
