East Rochester Meow-scue

Tomorrow I’ll have kittens (big and little) at Pet Supplies Plus off Ridge rd in Webster. Come meet them from noon to 3pm in the dog training area!

I’ve gotten some complaints that my adoption fees are high. I agree $250 for kittens and $200 for cats does seem steep. But I’ll show you how I came up with that number.

Where does the adoption fee go?
At the clinic:
$90- spay/neuter
$20-rabies vaccine
$20 FVRCP vaccine
$20 microchip

At home:
$20 FVRCP x2
$20 flea and tick topical monthly( sometimes bimonthly)
$15 3 days of deworming (repeated every 10 days for 3 cycles)

Total: $205

These numbers don’t include food and litter. My at home costs increase the longer they are with me. It also doesn’t include unforeseen sicknesses requiring medications and vet visits. It’s doesn’t include gas and vehicle maintenance. It doesn’t include the puppy pads, enrichment toys, treats, syringes for medications, the needles for the vaccines, it doesn’t include the cleaning supplies, disinfectants and shelter grade cleaners, it doesn’t cover the laundry detergent, the energy and water costs, the housing and of course it doesn’t compensate me for my time in the slightest.
I do this because someone had to step up. I do this so that just a few more kitties aren’t out there suffering. I do this because I love each and every one of them. The adoption fee isn’t for me, it goes right back to the cats. I am not breeding for a profit. I am rescuing at a deficit.
So yeah, the adoption fee does seem like a lot. Rescuing is expensive.

No kittens today. 😫 There’s conjunctivitis going through the bigger kittens. Thankfully I have them all in their own room, so the sickness is contained. With medicine, lots of wet food and TLC they will be all better very soon.

This lucky lady was rescued from the outside when her family moved. A neighbor kept her safe until the family was contacted. Unfortunately, they could not keep Brownie any more. We teamed up with one of my cat loving neighbors and got her to the vet for a checkup (she’s got an infected ye**ty ear that will need a life time of monitoring due to the shape of her inner ear) and then we got her up to date on shots. We would like to try to reimburse the foster for the vet bill she graciously undertook, no questions asked. If we raise enough money to cover the vet bill I will sponsor her adoption fee to the right home.
