On this day in 1999, GZA released his third solo album, Beneath the Surface.
While it may not get mentioned as often as Liquid Swords, this album proved once again why The Genius is one of hip-hop's greatest lyricists. Packed with razor-sharp wordplay, layered storytelling, and standout production, it featured appearances from fellow Wu-Tang members and stayed true to GZA's signature cerebral style.
