The Caldwell Collection at Mustang Field

Restoring a Golden Age aircraft isn't like restoring a car.
The original technical drawings are often incomplete or missing entirely. Engines haven't been in production for 70 years. Materials have to be sourced, fabricated, or found in private collections. Every Form 337 major alteration has to be documented and approved. Every original detail matters from the serial number stamps, the wiring, and the upholstery.
Our restoration partner, Waldo Wright's Flying Service, is one of the best in the country at this work. What happens in our restoration shop isn't just maintenance. It's preservation. It's the difference between an aircraft that survives another decade and one that disappears from the record entirely.
It’s some serious business! You can see it happening right in our restoration shop.

We’re making it easier to visit the hangar, see the airplanes, and experience a piece of Oklahoma aviation history up close!
Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, a history lover, or just looking for something different to do, we’d love to have you out to The Caldwell Collection. Come walk the hangar and see what the Golden Age of Aviation has to offer.
The museum is now open:
Wednesday-Friday: 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
A few quick looks around the hangar. 👀
Every airplane in The Caldwell Collection has its own story. Some trained pilots. Some carried families and businessmen across the country. Some were restored after decades of waiting for their second act.
Together, they tell the story of the Golden Age of Aviation and the people who kept these airplanes flying.
Come see for yourself!,

Rain may have canceled today’s Flying Day, but it didn’t stop our crew of volunteers from getting their hands dirty!
This morning, we spent time polishing and detailing the 1938 Ryan SCW as preparations continue for its trip to AirVenture Oshkosh next month.
The Ryan is one of the most elegant aircraft of the Golden Age, and every hour spent polishing, cleaning, and caring for it helps ensure it is ready to represent Mustang Field and The Caldwell Collection on one of aviation’s biggest stages.
Rain or shine…there was still plenty of aviation history happening inside the hangar today!

The hangar you walk into when you visit The Caldwell Collection isn't new. It's an original WWII-era structure. One of the buildings that stood on Mustang Field when thousands of young pilots learned to fly here in the 1940s.
A restored aircraft in a sterile modern building tells half a story. An aircraft in the original hangar it might have shared with the men who trained in it tells the whole one.
This is the full story. 🔗 https://www.thecaldwellcollection.org

Oklahoma weather is doing Oklahoma weather things. ⛈ Because of the forecast for this Saturday, June 6, we’re cancelling the official Mustang Field Flying Day activities. The next flying day will be held on July 11th.
The good news: the museum will still be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If the weather gives us a window, you never know... We may roll a plane or two out! But in the meantime, you can still come walk the hangar, see the airplanes, and spend part of your Saturday with us at Mustang Field.
