The Rhoads School is a one-room Pioneer School that is now situated in the center of Elk Grove Regional Park. Children walked across the fields to go there.

Third grade students from the Sacramento area spend the day living as pioneer students in the Rhoads School which was built in 1872.
Some schools are unable to participate due to lack of funds. The Elk Grove Historical Society provides scholarships that allows these children to experience a day that they will remember their entire life.
