Endorsement alert: Progressive Action Oregon endorses Jennifer Smith for Eugene City Council Ward 3. Jenn is a true progressive whose primary interest is moving the community towards a brighter future, rather than just seeing this position as another stepping stone to higher office. Her education and work experience makes her uniquely qualified.

It's official: We have registered with the state as a public benefit organization, which is a type of LLC that does work to benefit the people and/or the environment of Oregon. The reason why we chose this route is simple. A 501(c)(3) is not allowed to engage in any political activity.
The big boys (like the Heritage Foundation) run as hybrid 501 c 3 and 501 c 4 organizations. That way donations are tax deductible and they can still engage in political speech. The problem with that is that you pretty much have to have an attorney and a non-profit accountant on staff. Maybe some day. For now this public benefit company allows us the maximum flexibility to do our work.

Here are our first two endorsements: PAO endorses Melissa Bird for Congress in OR4 and Dawn Rasmussen for Congress - OR House Dist. 2 in OR2. They are true progressives, the former running against AIPAC and corporate backed Val Hoyle, and the latter against republican Cliff Benz. We wish them both the best and encourage you to find out more about these two strong women.
