A reminder that politics has not always looked the way it does today.

Back in 1986, Ronald Reagan helped dedicate Jimmy Carter’s presidential library — just years after defeating him in a hard-fought election.

It was a moment that showed something we do not see enough of anymore: political rivals disagreeing without losing basic respect for each other.

Reagan and Carter had very different visions for America, but both understood that public service should still come with dignity, humility, and love for the country.

Maybe that is the part worth bringing back.
