Our first reaction to sins, mistakes, and failures of ourselves and others is often anger and condemnation. We often feel justified in our outrage because in our culture it is acceptable to shame and ridicule those the crowd has deemed unworthy, or criminal, or evil. If those feelings are allowed to rage, we end up doing even more harm to everyone involved.
The voice of the Spirit is still, small, and therefore, powerful.
In the life of Jesus, it’s his
compassion and love which causes people to change. While others stared at, mocked, or wanted to kill the woman taken in adultery, the Savior was quiet, contemplative, and deliberately gentle.
