What if an entire city read the same book and then discussed it? Residents in cities from Seattle to New York thought so and did just that.

Today we’re bringing you some carefully vetted recommendations from our beloved pets. There’s so much you can gain from books, like valuable insight from Omar El Akkad or hard-won lessons like not eating bees. We hope you find something new to read thanks to Fred, Book the cat, Calliope, Butters McGee, and Gracie.

Never fear for there are quite a lot of pets amongst the 10 of us, so there will be some more pet recs in the future!

On October 25, 2023, Omar El Akkad tweeted, “One day, when it’s safe, when there’s no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it’s too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.” At the time of his tweet, at least 6,000 Palestinians had been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. As of today, the number of casualties has exceeded 70,000.

What started as a tweet has now become a National Book Award winning work of nonfiction. This is El Akkad’s breakup with the west. Our committee is thrilled to bring Omar El Akkad to Fort Collins for our annual author event on November 8th.

Tickets for general admission, reserved seating, and our author reception on November 7th are available now! You can purchase through the link in our bio or in-person at Old Firehouse Books. ❤️💚🤍🖤
