U STEMM Biotools Class 5:
Today students learned and experimented antibiotics and how they selectively inhibit bacteria and not human cells.
They learned the difference between gram positive and negative bacteria, different shapes , sizes, using staining techniques that pathologist/microbiologist use . They also used microscope to see the difference among them.
Thanks to our high school volunteers for leading this class..

Today was the third class of 12 week biotool classes led by High School volunteers.
Studnets learned about bacterial presence in everyday life, prepare the pure culture of bacteria using streaking method. They also learned about Antibiotics and bacterial growth and finding the right kind of antibiotics for infection treatment . They also learned about USEFUL bacteria like nitrobactor fixing atmospheric nitrogen and cyanobacterium for atmospheric oxygen production !!

Congratulations to Ayra Zafar , Urbana STEMM student and later volunteer teacher. She has been part of high school studnet volunteers team teaching anatomy in clay, biotools and genomics classes..very proud of their work ...

Urbana STEMM at library: Students learning about fermentation.
