Childhood trauma does not always arrive as one event a person can point to with clean edges. Sometimes it becomes the atmosphere a child learns to breathe. Years later, that child may be called successful, disciplined, gifted, strong, or hard to read while still carrying beliefs they never consciously chose.

Joanne Richardson is the author of Virtue of Honor: Acquiring Truth and Shatter and Scatter the Lies, and she speaks with the authority of a woman who has stopped asking pain for permission to tell the truth. In our conversation, she talks about learning very young to stay out of the way, suppress emotion, read the room, perform joy, and believe her needs were too much. She also speaks about complex PTSD, the body carrying what the voice was never allowed to say, and the moment a diagnosis finally gave language to a life she had spent trying to understand. Her testimony reminds us that faith in Christ does not require pretending psychological wounds are imaginary. “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
— John 8:32

For anyone who overperforms, withdraws, people-pleases, distrusts calm rooms, avoids vulnerability, or feels unsafe being fully known, this episode may speak to something beneath the surface. Childhood trauma can explain the pattern, but it does not have the authority to define the rest of the life. Listen with care, courage, and the willingness to ask what pain taught you before truth had a chance to speak.

Success Didn’t Save Her
Joanne Richardson built the career. Engineering. Smart buildings. Executive leadership. Male dominated rooms. Big responsibilities. Real pressure. From the outside, people would call that success. But success is a strange thing when the inside of you is still carrying things nobody ever saw.

That’s part of what we get into on THE RUSH OUTROSPECTIVE | Mastering the Art of Living. Not the dressed up version. Not the “look how strong I am” version. The real one. What happens when you keep winning in public but still feel unseen in private? What happens when faith meets the part of you that achievement could never reach? What happens when truth stops being an idea and becomes the only way out?

Joanne brought a conversation with weight. Her books, Virtue of Honor: Acquiring Truth and Shatter & Scatter the Lies, are part of that weight.

Episode coming soon. Be ready for something honest.

Networking Is More Human Than People Think
Most people think networking is about transactions. The truth is, people are often searching for connection, direction, encouragement, and trust. That’s part of what made John R Kirk and Cowtown Networking Group stand out to me.
