We were always told to rest after an injury to give our body time to heal, but here's why that's actually hurting more than helping:
1. The injured tissue doesn’t heal properly
-Movement brings blood into an area, and blood contains nutrients that our body needs to heal. If we avoid moving an area that hurts, we're slowing down the healing process.
2. You become less fit while you rest
-You are more than an injured body part. If your shoulder hurts, you have all the other joints in your body, and your cardiovascular system, that can be trained still. If you take time off to rest an injury then your body is losing all the hard work you've put in everywhere else.
3. Higher reinjury risk
-Muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone respond to load, if you are resting an injured area then you're not giving it the stimulus it needs to rebuild properly. Movements can be modified to work around pain and injury but rest is only causing your body to adapt to inactivity instead of building back stronger.
If you've been avoiding training due to pain or injury, DM us PAIN and we'll help you get back to training and feeling strong again.
