Our McClure brothers

In the summer of 1862, a letter arrived in Frankfort unlike the many before it.

William McClure, age 26, had written home often while serving in the 15th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. But this time, the words came from a nurse describing his final moments, before he died of typhoid fever.

“…he prayed aloud that God Almighty in His infinite mercy would restore peace to this once happy, but now distracted country. He asked for his brother [Joseph] and told him to take care of his Mother and all who were at home…”

Just months later, Joseph, only 18, was wounded at the Battle of Perryville and died soon after. Today, the two brothers rest side by side in Frankfort Cemetery.
