I had the perfect hook set on this pike earlier in the week, it was so heavy I thought I might be snagged. I set twice and felt the fiery of this fish boomerang back through my hands. I was using 12 lb mono, a 3/O - 1/16oz .usa swim bait hook with Go To Swim Minnow in the Eufaula color.

Late season open water is great with the entire lake to enjoy without the chaos, turn over appears to be complete, water is 43 degrees, and with the wicked weather we have currently, we might be seeing some ice in the near future!

Pike have a special place in my heart as brings me back to when I grew up targeting them on a lake in Wisconsin where they were abundant. My mom then filleting & preparing them on the grill with salt, black pepper, garlic, lemon, oil, & dash of paprika. The good ol’ days where I would outcompete my brothers in fishing for candy bars and usually win 😋
