Happy Fourth of July from GLWR!

Today, we proudly celebrate America’s 250th birthday—a milestone honoring our nation’s history, resilience, and the freedoms we cherish. As we gather with family and friends, we hope your day is filled with joy, reflection, and community.

While you enjoy the festivities, please remember that fireworks can be extremely frightening and dangerous for dogs. Loud noises often trigger panic, causing pets to bolt, injure themselves, or become lost. Keeping your dogs indoors, creating a calm space, and ensuring they have proper identification can make all the difference in keeping them safe tonight.

Holiday gatherings also bring plenty of tempting foods, but many can be harmful—or even deadly—to dogs. Corn cobs, in particular, are a major July 4th hazard and are known to cause severe intestinal blockages that require emergency surgery and can lead to fatal outcomes. Please keep plates, grills, and trash bins secure to prevent accidental ingestion.

From all of us at GLWR, we wish you a safe, happy, and pet‑friendly Fourth of July. Let’s celebrate responsibly and protect the furry family members who depend on us.

Sharing a heartfelt message from GLWR adopter Drema - please join us in supporting her through this difficult loss. ❤️🪽🌈

It is with deep, deep sadness, that I’m sharing that I lost my beautiful Aurora on June 26th. We adopted her on 08-24-17. She was born on 10-27-12. I am totally devastated. She, along with her sister Zeva, helped me get through one of the toughest times in my life, the loss of my husbandsix years ago. Then she helped me through the loss of Zeva. I wanted to get a 2nd dog, but shewas more of a one dog family. It has been almost 5 years of just her and myself. She was myeverything. She went with me everywhere that she could go. She was my sidekick. We were soblessed to have her and it was an honor to be her Mom.

She went on her own, saving me having to make that decision. But it doesn’t seem to be any less painful. I know Dad, Ashley, and Zeva werewaiting for her at The Rainbow Bridge. Aurora, hang out with Dad and your sisters until we meet again. Be at The Rainbow Bridge to greet me when it is my time. You will never be forgotten sweet girl. Love you always and forever. Mom.
