OUR ANNUAL REMINDER-Could YOU Pass a Boat Safety Inspection?
The holidays are coming and boating season is in full swing! Before you hit the water, make sure your fun doesn’t take a dive—be safe and inspection-ready!
Here’s your quick checklist to stay on the right side of the law (and the lake):
✅ PFDs (Life Jackets)
• One U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket for every person on board
• Kids under 13? In Texas They’ve gotta wear it (Type I, II, or III) if the boat is under 26 ft
• All must be the right size, in good shape, and easy to grab
✅ Throwable Flotation Device
• Required on boats 16 ft+ (not including kayaks/canoes)
• Think life ring or cushion—must be USCG-approved
✅ Fire Extinguisher
• Varies by boat size and system setup
• Example: A powerboat under 26 ft without a fixed system? Needs 1 B-I extinguisher
✅ Sound-Producing Device
• Horn, whistle, or anything loud enough to be heard
• A must for signaling and emergencies
✅ Navigation Lights
• Required at night or in low visibility
• Must be Coast Guard-approved and seen from the correct distance
Bottom line: Safety first = more fun on the water!
Check your gear, double-check the kids’ life jackets, and let’s make this boating season a safe splash. 💦
