Beginning Thursday, July 16, the Harrisonburg Police Department will begin weekly community walks throughout residential areas of the city, with the goal of walking every residential street within the next calendar year. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to building strong relationships with the community and being present in neighborhoods across Harrisonburg.

You may see officers walking up and down your street and knocking on your door when we are in your neighborhood. By doing this, we are hoping to increase our visibility in the community, hear and understand the public safety concerns our community may have, and better prepare ourselves to create a community-driven strategic plan.

We are excited to kick off community walks this week and look forward to hearing from our friends and neighbors about what really matters to them. These conversations will help us better understand community needs, strengthen trust, and continue working together to improve quality of life across the city.
