Iโve made a lot of lemonade in my life, but I guarantee youโve never had a glass like this. ๐๐ฒDuring filming of the Columbia Coast TV travel show, I was hanging out in the kitchen with my friend, author, and herbalist Kathy Stevens, and she pulled out the ultimate secret ingredient. We made a classic fresh-squeezed lemonade, but instead of standard sugar or simple syrup, we used her homemade Douglas Fir Syrup made right from the trees on her property. It adds this crazy layer of flavor, itโs sweet, but you get the actual aroma of the Pacific Northwest forest right in your nose before you even take a sip. It is so refreshing and completely unique.
If you want to learn how to make drinks like this, you need to go read Kathy's wildcrafting blog.
One of my favorite parts of shooting the travel show, Columbia Coast TV, is collaborating with incredible founders and artisans who truly respect their ingredients. ๐ฟ๐๐พ
While filming our newest episode out at ๐ช๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐บ in Raymond, Washington; I got to spend the day with my good friend ๐๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐. She is an incredible author, herbalist, and runs the blog She knows everything there is to know about foraging and growing plants, but I had to show her my absolute favorite kitchen cheat code for fresh thyme on camera.
No more picking tiny leaves off the stem and getting sticky fingers. Just grab a plastic bag, give it a rub, and boom: perfectly stripped thyme in about 5 seconds.
