Clean gutters and properly connected downspouts move water away from your roof and foundation. This is critical to avoid rot and infiltration into your basement or crawl space. If you don't have leaf guards, I recommend them highly. Easy to install and pay for themselves in a couple of seasons of not paying someone to clean the gutter or not spending the weekend on a ladder with gross rotting leaves to dig out.
