Bats Show Up In Wolfpack Win Against Mineros
Both Wolfpack and Mineros had their offenses going on Sunday, but Wolfpack eventually prevailed 9-8. Wolfpack collected 11 hits, while Mineros had six.
Mineros opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Mineros first got on the board when Jauqine 3 singled, scoring one run.
A wild pitch extended the Mineros lead to 4-1 in the top of the third inning.
Wolfpack flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Joshua Solis that drove in two.
Mineros tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a ground out by Beto, and a wild pitch.
In the top of the fifth, Mineros broke up the tie when Isreal 5 singled, scoring one run. Then a steal of home by Daniel 4 followed to extend the lead to 8-6.
Josh Leal singled on an 0-2 count, which helped Wolfpack tie the game at eight in the bottom of the eighth.
Manny Garcia earned the win for Wolfpack. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking none. Pascual took the loss for Mineros. The hurler went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three. Austin Garza stepped on the hill first for Wolfpack. The hurler allowed three hits and six runs over three innings, striking out six and walking four. Cresndo stepped on the mound first for Mineros. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and six runs over five innings, striking out five and walking five.
Wolfpack piled up 11 hits in the game. Garza, Miguel Gonzalez, Garcia, and Leal each collected two hits for Wolfpack. Solis and Jose Martinez were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Wolfpack. Justin Garza led Wolfpack with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Wolfpack ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game.
Cachorro led Mineros with two runs batted in. Cachorro went 1-for-3 on the day. 3 led Mineros with three hits in four at bats. Mineros turned two double plays in the game.
The Wolfpack is off to a 3-0 start in dramatic fashion. They look to extend the winning streak next weekend!
