REMEMBER AND HONOR
Red Poppy Day-also known as National Poppy Day in the United States- is observed each year on the Friday before Memorial Day.
But where did this tradition come from?
It all began after World War I, when battlefields across Europe-once torn apart by conflict - became covered in bright red poppies. Inspired by the haunting beauty of this transformation, Canadian soldier and poet John McCrae wrote the famous poem
"In Flanders Fields," describing how poppies grew amid soldiers' graves. Moved by this imagery, American humanitarian Moina Michael vowed to always wear a red poppy in remembrance. She also campaigned to make the poppy a national symbol of sacrifice -and she succeeded.
Since then, red poppies have been worn as a tribute to those who served and died in all wars.
Each flower is a promise.
We remember. We honor. We will not forget.
