Did you know that lawn equipment and dry summer grass are one of the leading causes of outdoor fires in Texas? Before you head out to mow or use power tools this week, keep these in mind:

✅ Mow before 10 AM or after 6 PM, peak heat hours dry out vegetation fast
✅ Keep a water hose accessible
✅ Never mow over debris, sparks happen
✅ Clear a 30-foot defensible space around structures if you live in a wooded area

Kids can become dehydrated quickly during hot Texas summer days, especially while playing outside, swimming, or participating in sports. Encourage regular water breaks before they feel thirsty.

Keep water bottles nearby, take breaks in the shade, and watch for signs like dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, or headache.

A little extra hydration can help keep summer fun safe. Call 911 immediately if a child becomes confused, faint, or difficult to wake.

Summer in Harris County means water is everywhere, and so is the risk of drowning, which remains one of the leading causes of accidental death in Texas. A few rules that can save a life:

💧 Never swim alone: always use the buddy system
💧 Designate a "water watcher:" phone down, eyes up
💧 Children should wear Coast Guard: approved life jackets on open water
💧 Know CPR: it bridges the gap until EMS arrives

If someone is unresponsive in or near water, call 911 first, then begin CPR if trained. EMS is on the way. 📞 911

Recently we celebrated a major milestone with the Topping Out Ceremony for our new EMS and Fire station.

The final structural beam was placed, marking an important step toward completing a facility that will serve our community for decades to come. This station represents more than just a building—it reflects our commitment to providing exceptional fire protection, emergency medical services, and public safety. Our staff, contractors, partners and commissioners took a moment to sign a beam.

We are grateful to our Board of Commissioners, staff, contractors, project partners, and community members who have helped make this project a reality. We look forward to the day we can officially open the doors and continue serving our community from this new home.

As backyard cookouts ramp up for the 4th, take a few simple steps to help prevent grilling accidents.

🔥 Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck, or other structures.
🍔 Never leave a hot grill unattended while cooking.
🧯 Keep a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby in case of an emergency.
👧 Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the grilling area.

A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping your family and neighbors safe.

If a fire becomes uncontrollable, move to a safe location and call 911 immediately.
