Photo fail Friday! Show us your photo failures. 🤭

In my work as an animal behaviorist specializing in sensitive and fearful dogs, I've witnessed the transformative power of prioritizing comfort and safety over everything else.

Understanding and respecting each dog's unique needs is paramount to ensuring they feel connected and safe with us.

When secure attachments are formed through consistent, positive interactions this can have a host of beneficial outcomes for our dogs.

Secure attachment can act as a buffer against stress, contributing to the overall well-being of the dog.

On a neurobiological level, securely attached dogs may also display enhanced neural plasticity, allowing them to learn and adapt more effectively to their environment.

This includes problem-solving skills, boosted confidence, and increased resiliency in changing environments.

As dogs age, they will often seek increased closeness and reassurance from us. The secure attachment formed over the years becomes a source of comfort and stability as dogs navigate the challenges associated with aging.

Dogs with secure attachments tend to live longer, possibly due to the positive impact of reduced stress and enhanced well-being associated with these strong emotional connections.

While the mindset of training can be beneficial for bonding, I encourage you to look at training through a conservative lens.

The majority of my time with my dogs does not revolve around training, anymore... and once I started taking my foot off the pedal I started to notice that I felt less pressure, I put less expectations on my dogs too.

I started 'living' with my dogs.

I was able to focus more on their needs, listening to them instead of always problem solving, which in turn improved our relationships and improved the way I felt about myself as a caregiver exponentially.

If you want to know what a typical day looks like for me and my dogs, let me know in the comments below!

And what are your thoughts?
Have you focused too much on training and not enough on just being?

Take time to read this fantastic post!
Focusing on understanding your dogs rather than constantly trying to “problem solve” their behaviors will lead to a much more rewarding relationship with them!
