How do we approach a project site that is both urban and natural, that is visited by the City's citizens at all hours of the day but is also protected wildlife habitat?

This was our question when we began the recently opened Memorial Park Running Complex. Featuring a 400 meter timing track, viewing decks, event plaza and terrace, gathering spaces, trails, cafe and parking, the goal of the team was to control the beam spreads to light only the areas needed for safety with little to no spill into the adjacent habitats. Lighting was carefully evaluated for evenness--avoiding debilitating shadows and glare without overlighting. As with all of our projects with the lighting is all compliant and a warm color temperature to minimize the effect of blue light on human and animal circadian rhythms.
