Natran Green Pest Control
Locally owned since 2006, Natran delivers eco-friendly pest control with powerful botanical treatments - safe for people, pets & the planet.
At first, it’s kind of cute 😉 You’re drinking your morning coffee, looking out the window, and there it is - a squirrel hopping across the fence, onto a branch, and then across the roof.
Just another little Texas backyard moment 🐿️
But then you see it again the next day.
Same side of the house. Same spot near the roofline. Same little pause by the vent.
And suddenly, it feels a little less random.
Squirrels are curious, and they don’t need much to start investigating. A loose soffit panel. A small gap near a vent. A branch touching the roof. To them, those little details can look like a way into a warm, quiet place.
A few things to keep an eye on:
🐿️ The same squirrel coming back to the same roof area
🔊 Scratching or scurrying sounds from the attic, especially early morning or late afternoon
🌳 Branches touching or hanging close to the roof
🔍 Gnaw marks, gaps, or damage around vents, soffits, or roof edges
One squirrel in the yard is usually just part of living in Texas. But if squirrels get into an attic, they can damage insulation, chew wiring, and widen small openings around the home, and the longer they’re there, the more complicated it can get.
So if your “cute backyard visitor” keeps showing up in the same place, Natran can come take a look 🔍

Any idea what caused this? 👀
At first glance, it just looks like a bit of dirt on the concrete. Most people walk right past it.
But this is actually a pheromone trail.
Scout ants find a route, leave a chemical signal, and the rest of the colony follows that exact path - sometimes hundreds, sometimes thousands, all moving in the same direction.
What looks like a random smudge on your sidewalk is actually a pretty organized highway.
When we see a trail this established running along a walkway next to a house, we start paying close attention to the foundation - the colony using this trail usually isn’t far 🏡

Two cities. One state. Very different pest problems in May 🤫
Houston is humid, warm, and wet. Mosquitoes are already breeding, termites are swarming after spring rain, and American cockroaches are starting to move indoors as temperatures rise.
Austin is drier, hillier, and built on limestone 🌵 Fire ants are expanding quickly right now, scorpions are coming out from under rocks and slabs, and a single heavy rainstorm can trigger a mosquito spike almost overnight.
We inspect homes in both cities, and we see this every May.
What’s showing up in a Houston yard isn’t always what’s showing up in Austin, and treating them the same way usually doesn’t work 👀

Every time it rains in Texas, pest activity shifts a little closer to your home 💧
After a good rain, things start to shift.
The soil around your foundation softens, making it easier for termites to move upward. Low spots in the yard hold water, which is all mosquitoes need to start breeding within a day or two. Fire ants don’t like the flooding either, so they move and rebuild their mounds higher, sometimes almost overnight.
Then there’s everything the rain leaves behind:
🍂 Leaves and debris collecting along the foundation
🌧️ Wood staying damp longer than usual
🏡 Gutters and drainage that don’t always keep up
All of that creates the kind of conditions pests are already looking for.
The weeks after steady spring rain are usually some of our busiest. Not because something suddenly started, but because what’s been going on quietly becomes easier to notice. Or starts getting a little too close to home.
So if you’ve had a few rainy weeks and you’re starting to see more activity around your house, you’re not imagining it.
