What if there was a home?

This was the question that Rhonda Paulson woke up with after visiting a CPS office and learning that a young girl had slept on that same CPS office floor the night before after being removed from the only home she’s ever known.

What if there was a home?

Well- thanks to two courageous and tenacious women right here in our city that took this question and extended it to…what if there was a home right here in Brazoria county? And then went to work- there will soon be a home right here in our community!

A home that will welcome kids on the day they are removed from their home - a home where they will have access to a meal of their choice, a hot bath or shower if they want, a room full of toys a cozy couch to sit in silence if they wish and above all a home with volunteers whose only goal is to lavishly love and serve and be present with them on arguably their worst day.

Oh and that case worker who was also a part of the trauma of removal day will no longer have to be torn between caring for the child and also working to find them a placement. They will have a space and a meal and also be lavished loved on so they can do the work they need to do.

And let’s talk about the foster family that will take these kiddos in…instead of receiving a traumatized child with a trash bag full of all they could leave the house with- they will also be lavishly loved as this kiddo will leave the Isaiah house with a real bag full of brand new clothes, toys, and any supply that family will need in order to be able to make that transition into their home. Even frozen ready to go meals to feed their family.

Y’all! Tell me this is not beautiful- AND ITS RIGHT HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY!

This home is not finished and still needs this community in order to be able to
Open its doors. We are so close and there are so many opportunities for you to do your part to reduce trauma for kids who did NOTHING to be in the situation they are in.

This weekend- all over town kids are hosting lemonade stands to support the home.

We have a golf tournament coming up in September and we need sponsors and teams.

We have a lunch and dinner event where can hear the story of Isaiah and decide how or if you want to support moving forward.

You can give $10 or $20 or however much a month by becoming a sock buddy.

Or…you can send me any amount of money and I will get that straight where it needs to go.

I’m setting a goal of $5000 to raise for this home because I believe in this community and because I sat in this
House on Thursday for a meeting and looked around at the unfinished beautiful space and couldn’t help but see a confused and sad teenager sitting at the dining room table eating a meal that they chose. And then looking over where the living room will be and seeing a 5 year old on the floor surrounded by new toys and a volunteer on the floor with them with no other agenda except to make them feel so seen and loved and valued.

And for a moment, sitting it that home that still needs doors and toilets and a fence and blinds for the windows and furniture- for a moment I forgot that this was a home that will open it’s beautiful red door and welcome trauma in again and again and again. A home that will house so much hurt and also so much healing all in one space.

This is powerful you guys.
So powerful.

And if all of us will give a little bit then we can truly say this is a home that was built by the community.

I know we can do this because I’ve seen you show up time and time again.

100 people giving $50 would meet this $5000 goal! Any amount helps and you will forever be able to say- “I was a part of that!”

Or go find a lemonade stand this weekend(I can send you a list).
