Have you ever wondered what it is like to work at VLP?! Today we are sharing some insight into another hardworking member of our staff.
It is my pleasure to introduce our incredible Manager of Schedule Operations, Heather! Please enjoy a day in her life...
Heather shares that, "'Typical' doesn’t really apply in Operations! Every day is different. This job changes every day. Some days run smoothly, and other days require quick pivots, creative problem-solving, and managing a lot of moving pieces at once. My role is to make sure the schedule works — even when it feels like controlled chaos 😂"
What asked what she loves about her job, Heather says, "I love playing “Schedule Jenga” — strategically shifting pieces to make things fit and ensuring coverage where it’s needed most. It’s like solving a puzzle every single day.
I also truly enjoy being in the background. The real rockstars are our interpreters on the front line. They are the face of VLP, serving the community directly. I manage the logistics that keep everything spinning so they can focus on what they do best. Supporting the mission from behind the scenes is incredibly rewarding."
Heather stays at VLP because, "VLP feels like family. We support each other, step in when needed, and genuinely care about the impact of our work. Our fearless leader is driven by a passion for language access — not just the bottom line — and that mission shows up in the decisions he makes every day. Being part of an organization that prioritizes access and community makes this work meaningful."
Challenges are inevitable and when asked about challenges, Heather shared, "One of the most challenging parts of my role is having to say we’re unable to cover. Whether it’s due to an unexpected interpreter emergency or limited resources in a particular area, those moments are truly disheartening. We understand how critical language access is, and decisions like that are never taken lightly. They push me to continually plan ahead, strengthen our processes, and problem-solve creatively so we can minimize those situations whenever possible."
Heather is proud to be part of the VLP team and we are so grateful for her hard work!! Thank you, Heather!!
