Today the FMC Cookers did our first meal service of the year to the patrons of The Gathering Place. This group provides good food, entertainment and respite to their clients who suffer from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

Today we had 15 volunteers that turned out to prepare and serve Smoked Chicken Spaghetti, Caesar Salad, and garlic bread for their Valentines themed event.

One thing that makes these events special is when, just before lunch, some of the kids attending our Methodist Day School come in to sing songs and entertain the clients. Just an overall uplifting experience!

Thanks to all of our volunteers and supporters for making this ministry possible!

FMC Cookers
2025 Year End Review

2025 was a great year for the FMC Cookers! Our Cookers and Wranglers participated in 31 separate events serving FMC and the Community. 2,081 meals were served to both those in fellowship and those in need. We held 6 major cook days during the year (brisket and pork) that was supported by 90 of our Cookers and Wranglers. This is when we process all our proteins for the different service events during the year.

On two occasions, our Cookers and Wranglers were called upon to support FMC at the Spring Luncheon and Chilli Fest with their equipment and talents.

2025 saw us hold our first FMC Youth BBQ Camp where 8 of our Youth learned food safety, cooking, and serving skills. That camp was supported by 8 of our senior Cookers who served as mentors. Our campers made and served meals to Men’s Breakfast and the Church Staff during the week. It was an overall success, and one we will repeat in 2026.

None of this is possible without our volunteers who selflessly give of their time and their talents. Counting each volunteer for each event, I calculate that we had a total of 319 Service and Fellowship Opportunities (SFO’s). Thank you all!

In 2025 our clients included:
Hope Disaster Relief – Volunteers rebuilding homes in the Montgomery area effected by disasters.
Love Heals Youth – Providing leadership training and mental health counseling to Foster Youth.
The Gathering Place – Providing support to Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons patients and their caregivers.
Montgomery County Women’s Shelter – Providing care and shelter for women in distress.
Daughters of the Republic of Texas
The Woodland Hills Community Church
First Methodist Church Conroe

In 2025 we continued to see our ministry grow and received several new volunteers!

All of our funding is derived strictly through donations. I am pleased to say that thanks to our supporters we were able to provide more “free” food to our clients this year than ever before. Thank you all for your willingness to serve and to give to our ministry! We are excited for what 2026 will bring and look forward to another great year of service and fellowship! Come join us!

Well it continues to be a busy month for the FMC Cookers! Wednesday we supported The Woodland Hills Community Church by providing 250 pulled pork sandwiches for them to distribute at the Willis Fields of Faith tailgate and worship service. TWHCC is a new church in Willis being planted by First Methodist Conroe in the midst of the very thriving community of Willis and Montgomery County.

Tomorrow we will be doing another community service event providing lunch for the Daughters of the Republic of Texas that will be meeting at FMC. That will close out our events for October!

Thanks to all of our volunteers and supporters for making this ministry possible!

It has been a while since I posted anything recently, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy!

On Thursday we had the privilege of serving BBQ to The Gathering Place. These outstanding volunteers provide a day for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers to enjoy games and entertainment as well as a great meal. If a loved one of yours falls into this category, I urge you to find a local chapter and take advantage of the services they offer!

This weekend we had 6th Cook. Last night we gathered to prep 18 pork butts for smoking today. I would like to believe that 12 of our Cookers turned out just for prep, but I believe they mostly came to witness our Guest Chef, Reverend John Wayne McMann demonstrating how to prepare his Shotgun Shell appetizers. A perfect tailgating dish!

This morning we rolled out our two offset smokers and got our butts in the smoke by 7:30. We also smoked our Shotgun Shells, and they were phenomenal! Will definitely keep those in our repertoire!

At the end of the day we put up enough proteins for an additional 400 sandwiches. We are prepared to serve several events over the next few weeks including Fields of Faith (Willis), foster youth, and other community needs.

Thanks to our volunteers for their willingness to serve, and our supporters for making this ministry possible!

Honestly, it has been a long week! First we had our 3 day Youth BBQ Camp, and finished up today with our veteran Cookers and Wranglers turning out to prep, smoke, and process 16 pork butts. We wound up processing a total of 70 pounds of pulled pork. From all of this weeks activities we have added enough proteins to our inventory to prepare and serve at least 1,100 meals when needed.

Thanks to all of our Cookers, Wranglers, and supporters for making this all possible!
