WHY do I have a dozen strangers in my DM's trying to sell me something today to "fix" my social media content?

Do they think they are wooing me with that kind of flattery? 😆

Shaming your potential clients is not a vibe.

But also...the amount of TIME they are putting into cold messaging ain't it for them either.

I wish I could have articulated this when I started my business:

I cannot put a price on my time
..because there is no amount of money that is worth selling my attention away from my kids. It's my most precious commodity.

Once I came to understand that, my approach to building my business was changed forever.

⚡ Now, I protect my boundaries.

⚡ I give myself permission to skip tactics that make me feel sleazy.

⚡ I serve my clients in ways that also serve MY family.

👉🏻 And I can honestly say that it isn't about your money. 👈🏻

We can have authentic conversations and really get to know each other on a deep, personal level.

Because I'm not trying to sell you anything under the pretense of caring about you.

One year ago, my life was turned upside down. 

My husband needed to make a major pivot in his career. We wanted to create our own business together. And I wanted to write again. 

So we crafted a plan...

Step 1: I'd go back to work for 12 months and the Professor would park his semi to come home to play Homeschool Dad.

After 9 years as a stay-at-home mom, I wanted to be as near as possible
..so I tried out a job that was a half mile from our house and completely outside of my skillset.

But I focused on the end goal: freedom.

I determined to make use of every second of that year. And I got my butt to work. Every day, I brainstormed pages of ideas and notes one spare moment at a time.

I wrote in the evenings and on the weekends. I worked with a mentor. I started taking classes and reading books about marketing. I devoured every bit of info I could get my hands on.

I wrote for trade. I wrote for free. And one day, I got my first paying client. 

That client was exactly what I said my target client was. Which is how I found out how WRONG I was about what I wanted to write and who I wanted to write for. 🤦‍♀️

The point is...

Starting a business is way harder than you think it's going to be. You have to be willing to sacrifice a lot and work harder than you ever thought you could. You have to fail...a lot. And then you have to try to do it better.

And before you know it, your year is over. It was the hardest year of my life, but I am so grateful to myself for not giving up.
